After Obama Speech, Islamic State Wins New Recruits In Syria - Monitor -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Islamic State has won new recruits in Syria since President Barack Obama signalled last week that air strikes against the group will be expanded from Iraq to its strongholds in northern and eastern Syria, a group monitoring the war said on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 162 people had joined Islamic State training camps in Aleppo province since Sept 10, when Obama said he would not hesitate to strike Islamic State in Syria.

The new recruits do not represent a big increase in the size of IS, which is estimated by intelligence agencies at 20,000 to 30,000 fighters in Syria and Iraq. But they do illustrate the risk that U.S.-led efforts to crush Islamic State will end up winning it more followers.

 There is a great deal of anti-U.S. sentiment in the Middle East .... but the Islamic State has grown not because of President Obama .... but because of the violent Jihadi philosophy and view of Islam that they promote .... and that many Muslims are in agreement with.

Today at about 12noon, a group of villagers in Kamba, Kebbi State, were about to lynch a national of Niger Republic, named Adamu Gaya, on suspicion of involvement in an alleged ritual murder of a young girl. The Police rescued and brought him into protective custody.

However, irate villagers attacked the Police station and destroyed the communication base. They also burnt two (2) Police vehicles, and nine (9) motorcycles.
 Also smashed were the windscreens of four (4) cars parked at the premises. The mob also burnt the official residence of the Divisional Police Officer. In the attack, four (4) persons lost their lives. Eighty-nine (89) persons have been arrested for the violence. 

The Inspector-General of Police, Ag.IGP Suleiman Abba has therefore called on citizens not to take laws into their hands rather they should assist law enforcement officers in maintenance of law and order in the society.

lol... Juju' Coffin Scatters Church In Akwa Ibom State

Wonders, they say, shall never end. It was yet another wonderful display in Mount Zion Mission, Idong-Akpentun, Uquo, Esit Eket local government area as people allegedly took a coffin to the church, saying the church should park out of their father's land.

Our correspondent who visited the church yesterday saw the coffin openly displayed at the center of the uncompleted pastor's lodge of the church.

Speaking with our correspondent, the resident pastor of the church, Apostle A.D. Udoh said everybody was highly flabbergasted working up last Sunday morning to see the coffin in the premises.

Speaking further, the clergyman, who said has been stationed in the church for three years said the portion of the land was sold to the church by one Mr Okon William and some years ago and all document signed between him and the church.

According to him, ''there was no problem at all until when the church decided to erect structure for pastor's lodge in the portion that some members of the man (Mr Okon William) started confronting the church , saying nothing should be done in the land, claiming the land was sorely their father's property''.

The Man of God further stressed that the dispute was first taken to the Uquo Village Council and later to the Magistrate Court, Uquo where the court ordered that the church should secure another portion of land somewhere for the family.

Meanwhile, the pastor said the church has concluded arrangement to secure another plot of land for the family as ordered by the court until last Sunday when they brought the 'juju' coffin to the church premises insisting that the church should vacate the land.

According to the resident pastor, the attention of the village council was again drawn to witnessed the incident where the council, he said resolved that the people should evacuate the coffin from the church premises.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach out to the Village Head of Uquo, chief Johnson Mayor could not be reach as at press time as he was not in his palace when visited.

A housewife, Uzoima Patrick has been charged along with her husband, Ezechima over the rape, by the husband of their 16 year old house keeper.

The couple was arraigned today before the Yaba Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos.

Ezechima, 42 and Uzoima, 37, who reside at 14 Iyajesha Street, Amikonle in Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, child defilement and rape.

The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences between June 1 and June 4 at their residence.

He alleged that the husband conspired with his wife to rape the teenage housekeeper.

"Patrick conspired with his wife to defile the 16-year-old girl. Uzoima had overpowered the girl for the husband to rape her.''

Uzoima threatened to stab the girl with a knife to force her to cooperate with her husband, the prosecutor said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 137, 258 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 258 stipulates life imprisonment for rape. The couple has denied the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Further hearing in the case was fixed for 22 September.

ISIS Releases Another Video Warning President Obama Against Sending Troops To Iraq

he militant Islamic State group has released a video warning the United States that fighters await it in Iraq if President Barack Obama sends troops there, as he and his top general said may happen, according to HuffPost report.

The propaganda video titled 'Flames of War' shows militants blowing up war tanks, wounded American soldiers, and some other gruesome images.

The video appears to be a response to suggestions by Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the  US Joint Chiefs of Staff, who said in testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee that if the current Iraq strategy does not work, he may recommend the use of ground troops.

The overlay text in the video "fighting has just begun". Again, the video has high production values.
