Prince Harry in first visit to mosque in Oman

Royal goes on tour of Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, a gift to the nation from current ruler, on final day of visit to Oman
Prince Harry has made his first visit to a mosque on the final morning of his tour of Oman.
The Prince was taken on a tour of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, which is one of the world's largest, with space for 20,000 worshippers.

Dressed in a blue suit and tie, the Prince took off his shoes, in accordance with Muslim custom, before entering the main prayer hall, which contains the world's second-largest hand-woven carpet and second-largest chandelier.
The mosque was a gift to the nation from the current ruler, Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said, to mark the 30th year of his reign.
Built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone, it took six years to complete. The cost is a closely-guarded secret.
Inside the male prayer hall the Prince marvelled at the inside of the dome over the centre, from which hangs an eight-ton Swarovski crystal chandelier which is 45ft tall.

It even has a staircase inside it for workmen to change its 1,122 bulbs.

On the floor is an Iranian-made prayer carpet that is made up of 1.7 billion knots, which took 400 female weavers four years to complete and weighs 21 tons.

It measures 229ft x 196 ft and covers the entire floor of the hall.

The Prince smiled as he was shown pictures of his father, the Prince of Wales, visiting the building, which covers ten acres, last year.
