An American of Arabic descent has been arrested by South Korean military personnel after trying to swim to North Korea, Telegraph UK reports.
The unnamed man, who is said to be in his early 30's was apprehended by South Korean marine sentries just before midnight on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 as he tried to swim across River Han which acts as a border with North Korea at Gimpo.
"I was trying to go to North Korea in order to meet with supreme leader Kim Jong-un," the man told authorities.
The man's attempt was in defiance to a US directive warning its citizens against going to North Korea, which became firmer after three American citizens were arrested in recent months.
On Sunday, September 14, 2014 an American Matthew Miller was sentenced to jail for six years in North Korea for "hostile acts" against the regime.
