Nigeria Military fires GOC attacked by convicted soldiers
The Nigeria Military authorities have retired the former General Officer Commanding the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Mohammed, who was attacked by soldiers at their barracks in Maiduguri on May 14th. The soldiers have since been sentenced to death for that action by a military court.

According to Punch, Mohammed was retired after he was recalled to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army without posting for months after the soldiers' attempt on his life.

It was gathered from a top military source in Abuja that the Army authorities quietly retired him last month.

The source said, "The Maj. Gen. has been retired; you don't expect that to be made public; issues of retirement especially in the military are confidential. The man was at the Army headquarters for some time. He was awaiting posting then   but he was eventually retired about a month ago."

Meanwhile, the NLC, TUC and human rights lawyers have urged the Presidency and the Army Council chaired by the Minister of Defence to prevail on the military authorities to spare the lives of the 12 soldiers.

"How can you go and report to the master? You want to get us into trouble?" Tanko asked. "Yes, that will teach you not to cheat me," Bawa said. "Please don't do it," Garba pleaded. "Leave him," Sule said. "Why are you begging him?" He turned to Bawa. "Go and report, you are as guilty as we are if not even more." Bawa hesitated. His plan to get them pleading frantically had failed. Sule was clever enough to know that he too would get into trouble if he reported. "Anyway, if you share the oranges with me, I won't report." "No, we will not share with you, go and report and I will personally tell the master that you too go there to pluck oranges," Sule said. Bawa smiled. "What is wrong with you, Sule? Do you not know when one is joking with you? Do you think I will go to report to the master? Why? After all, we are all brothers." ....
