The real reason why Coach Stephen Keshi, despite being the preferred candidate for the top job of the Burkina Faso national team did not get the job has been revealed.
Dependable sources close to the coach informed Daily Sunsports that Keshi's asking price scared the Burkina Faso Football Federation and forced them to settle for the German, Gornot Rohr.
Our source revealed that based on Keshi pedigree and given the countries he had handled before applying for the job, his asking price of over $25, 000 was too much for the federation to afford while his counterpart from Germany made a lesser request which was affordable for the Burkina football eggheads.
"Keshi, with a salary of N5m monthly in Nigeria with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF did not see any reason for going below his earnings and would not settle for less hence the choice of Rohr," our source revealed noting that a coach of his calibre should really not price himself lesser than he should.
However, the out of contract coach only last week was quoted as saying he had finally received a new contract from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and he was studying it according to mtnfootball.com.
Keshi said: "I got a mail from the NFF late last night (Wednesday) with the contract."
And though Keshi was not forthcoming with details of the deal, the former Mali and Togo boss dismissed claims of a salary slash.
"I am still studying the contract but I can tell you that reports of a slash to my monthly take-home are not true," he disclosed.
"The NFF has offered the same amount I was earning when I took the team to the World Cup in Brazil (which is five million naira)."
