Korede Bello: Mavin singer says he isn't an upcoming artiste
Korede Bello has revealed he is against the branding of young aspiring musicians, 'upcoming artists'.
The Mavin Records singer and guitarist was signed to Don Jazzy last year, and has quickly risen to become a pop favourite due to his cute looks and captivating voice.
Korede who once was tagged 'upcoming', has seen that change, with a popular record and features propelling him to massive popularity.
Korede talked to The Nation, emphasising on his dislike for that term which is popularly used to qualify performers who are yet to break even.
"When somebody goes to school and is in primary one, will you call the person upcoming student?" Korede asked. "Or when you just get a job in the bank will you be called an upcoming banker?
Korede further says that what really matters is how an artiste views himself. The 18-year old declares he's a superstar, and that's all that makes sense for him.
"But for me I will say people are entitled to whatever title they choose to give artistes, but it depends on the artiste; 'how you see yourself.' I see myself as a musician, I see myself as a mega super star and that is all that matters."
On a parting note, Korede further advises other artistes to look past the tag, reject it, and concentrate on making good music.
"I will advise artistes not to go along with that upcoming title because you might just remain upcoming forever. So you had better see yourself as a musician and a servant to humanity. Is there upcoming pastor? If there is none, why upcoming artiste?"
