Igbo groups, Ohanaeze-Ndigbo and Igbo Justice Congress have issued a petition against Oba of Lagos to the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Bem Angwe. The petition seeks to forestal threats made made the Oba against Igbos. 

The petition which was issued by Innocent Arinze and Arinze Ugwu for the groups read, 

"The entire Igbo in Lagos State seeks your intervention to forestall the threat by HRM Oba Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos to drown all Ndigbo in Lagos State inside the Lagoon if they failed to vote his candidate, Ambode of the APC Lagos.
