Leading telecommunications operator, Airtel Nigeria is partnering with Trace, an International music video channel, to launch a unique mobile song contest,designed to empower Nigerian youths and create robust platforms for them to achieve their aspirations.

The competition tagged 'Airtel Trace Music Stars' is a mobile song contest which will allow contestants to audition right from their phones and earn a chance of becoming the next big music star in Nigeria.

 Contestants can participate by simply recording their song with an Airtel line, using a short code and will be aided by an interactive voice prompt.
The interactive voice prompt will be fortified with multi-lingual functionality including English and Pidgin which will assist in eliminating any language barrier and will enable youths from all parts of across Nigeria participate in the competition

Speaking on the initiative, the Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Maurice Newa, noted that Airtel as a youth-centric telecoms company will be initiating the 'Airtel Trace Music Star' platform to empower Nigerian youths by giving  them opportunities to develop their innate skills and achieve their dreams.

He said: "Airtel is delighted to be associated with Trace in bringing excitement and providing entertainment opportunities for our teeming customers especially youths and the music lovers. This initiative is geared towards supporting and nurturing talents of Nigerian youth.In the next few weeks we will unveil the biggest platform for Nigerians to express their singing talent through their mobile phones from the comfort of any location they choose. "

Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Trace Group, Olivier Laouchez sees the collaboration as a perfect opportunity to showcase African youth talent to the rest of the world. According to him, "We are tremendously excited about this pan African partnership with Airtel. Trace is dedicated to African youth and this ground breaking competition is a great step towards our joint goal of empowering African youth".

As a pan-African initiative, the Airtel Trace Music competition is designed to hold simultaneously in other African countries where Airtel operates. Thewinners from each participating country will then compete in atelevised pan-African grand finale where the African champion will win a trip to the USA to be mentored by megastar Akon in addition to a professional music video and a record deal with Universal Music.

Airtel Nigeria has been in the forefront of empowering Nigerian youths through various credible platforms with the sponsorship of topentertainment and talent-hunt projects such as Nigeria's Got Talent, which has provided opportunities for thousands of youths to take their skills to the next level. Drums of war! Oh, dear, what's happening in Ekiti?

Youths on the rampage in Ado Ekiti on 26 September, 2014, following two days of violence which has already claimed the life of a leading PDP supporter.

A fracas has broken out in Ekiti state after a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti, Chief Omolafe Aderiye, was shot dead by unknown gunmen last night.

The late Aderiye had accompanied Fayose to the High Court complex in Ado-Ekiti  when the governor-elect attended the sitting of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. His supporters beat up a judge in the process.

As soon as news of his death got to the inhabitants of the state, supporters of the deceased, who was a former state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), took to the streets causing mayhem and vandalizing properties.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, Victor Babayemi, gave no comment on the issue.

In a related development, the campaign office of incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi, is currently ablaze.

The exact cause of the fire remains to be ascertained, although speculation is rife that it may be a retaliation by Fayose's supporters, following the shooting of Aderiye.
Update:  Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has now imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on all parts of the state.
"I have taken the decision to institute a dusk to dawn curfew in the state immediately. Accordingly, there would be no movement between the hours of 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. everyday till further notice," the governor said in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, while addressing journalists Friday.

He also directed "the Attorney General of the state to issue a legal advisory to the Chief Judge of the state and all the parties to the existing cases in the State High Court and the Ekiti State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal, on the desirability of seeking an alternative venue for the hearing of these cases outside Ekiti State."
"The State can no longer afford to witness the bizarre spectacle of the beating up of judicial officers and wanton intimidation of lawyers and court personnel," Mr. Fayemi said.
